Misschien wel de mooiste uit de reeks. ATC SCM50 laat u weinig te wensen over. Hij koppelt een indrukwekkend breed spectrum aan een fijnzinnige weergave. Onvolkomenheden in de mix worden direct duidelijk. Subtiele verschillen in converters en/of kabels blijven niet onopgemerkt. Natuurlijk maken de grotere SCM's wat SPL betreft meer indruk. Maar qua subtiliteit is de SCM-50 duidelijk in het voordeel. Fantastisch voor klassiek en jazz maar ook het wat ruigere werkt schuwt deze monitor niet. Ook zeer geschikt voor thuis (voor wie het betalen kan).

The SCM50ASL Pro is an active 3-way system suitable for reference monitoring in medium sized rooms, with a 234mm Super Linear Bass Driver. The active design ensures optimum matching of six mono amp blocks for plenty of transient headroom and max SPL's of 112db.
Active versus Passive

Active amplification has many advantages:
- Real active amplification means using a dedicated amplifier for each frequency band. Not to be confused by having one broad band amplifier built into the loudspeaker cabinet whilst still using passive crossovers.
- Active crossover filters (at the input of the amplifier) with phase correction ensure accurate timbre, excellent imaging and source location
- A flat magnitude response that is not changed with power input level results in excellent linear behaviour
- A 20dB improvement in intermodulation distortion (IMD). Reducing IMD is one of the major design goals when designing a loudspeaker system.
- Better controlled low frequency (due to optimal damping by the amplifier)
- A greater dynamic range for the same input power (no losses caused by a passive filter)
